Postural dysfunctions

Also known as “Poor Posture”, is when the spine is positioned in a way that may produce pain symptoms or may be perceived as different to “neutral spine”. This can present as increased curvature of the spine (cervical or thoracic Kyphosis), rounding of the shoulders or even increased lower back curvature (lumbar lordosis). These presentations may be attributable to prolonged poor spinal positioning due to incorrect sitting and standing habits. Exercise can help alleviate pain and muscle tightness associated with poor posture and can correct these habits to form better, more dynamic spinal postures.

Scoliosis

It is a sideways posture of the spine where the cause is mostly unknown. Although exercise may not “cure” the condition, a regular structured exercise and stretching program can help manage pain and reduce muscle tension associated with this condition.
